Intergenerational Learning for Sustainable Households – IGL 4 Sustainable Households (IL4SH)
The project emphasizes the need for a comprehensive response to anthropogenic climate change and challenges posed by an aging population. It underscores the importance of significant lifestyle changes involving both older and younger generations. Household emissions are highlighted as major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, requiring additional actions to reduce them. Education is emphasized as crucial in developing ecological literacy and sustainability awareness, particularly in secondary schools. Therefore, the project aims to introduce concepts, practices, and methods of intergenerational learning, especially within the realm of climate/sustainability education in secondary schools through citizen science projects to promote more environmentally sustainable and greener practices.
There are two main objectives:
· to cultivate the underexplored IGL method within formal educational processes;
· to encourage the development of sustainable practices in households.
The project consists of specific work packages that yield results:
Work Package 2 develops an e-book providing high school educators with detailed coverage of the IGL framework (intergenerational learning) along with its benefits and opportunities. Work Package 3 develops a DIY manual and virtual toolkit, providing tools and resources for creating and implementing intergenerational activities through citizen science in STEM education for high school educators. Work Package 4 consists of project-based training, including mobility, experiential labs, science cafes, and fairs.
