MEMORY ESCAPE is a cross-border project funded by the Interreg VI-A Italy–Croatia Programme 2021–2027.
The project addresses the shared and complex heritage of 20th- century totalitarian regimes across the Adriatic area by developing an innovative “phygital” escape room model that combines physical heritage sites with digital storytelling tools.
Through joint Italian–Croatian research, co-design activities and pilot actions, the project aims to transform dissonant heritage into an interactive educational experience primarily targeting young people. By integrating gamification, multimedia content and immersive
narratives, MEMORY ESCAPE encourages critical reflection on history and memory while strengthening cross-border dialogue and cooperation.
The project will deliver replicable phygital escape rooms, a shared digital asset library, a bi-national technical manual and a training programme for young game masters, contributing to
cultural innovation, social inclusion and the diversification of sustainable tourism in the Adriatic region.
The partnership includes the Municipality of Labin (Croatia) as Lead Partner, the
Municipality of Bertinoro (Italy), ATRIUM – Architecture of Totalitarian Regimes of the 20th Century in Europe’s Urban Memory Cultural Route Association (Italy), and KALIMERA (Croatia).
